{"id":2959,"date":"2019-04-14T11:54:48","date_gmt":"2019-04-14T10:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/?p=2959"},"modified":"2021-05-09T17:29:08","modified_gmt":"2021-05-09T16:29:08","slug":"keeper-of-the-queens-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/?p=2959","title":{"rendered":"Keeper of the Queen\u2019s gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/DSC_0798-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/DSC_0798-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/DSC_0798-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nGrayshott Gardeners had been looking forward to <strong>John Anderson<\/strong>\u2019s\ntalk on Royal Gardens and we were not disappointed: with nearly 5000\nacres comprising the Savill Garden and the Valley Gardens as well as\nthe private garden at Frogmore House, there was plenty to talk about,\nincluding the Park\u2019s history and royal connections going back\nseveral centuries, John\u2019s travels in India, Chile, Australia and\nSouth Africa to search out plants, and the highlight of having to\nprovide the greenery decorations for the wedding of Prince Harry and\nMeghan Markle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> We heard about the difficulty of balancing stress placed on the park by the 6 million visitors annually, climate change forcing the team to seek out suitable plants for future planting, and threats such as the <em>Xylella fastidiosa<\/em> bacterial pest currently devastating olive orchards in Southern Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nHowever, a series of beautiful photographs of the Woodland Gardens,\nseasonal garden pictures, Valley views and individual plants provided\nevidence of how well the gardening team is coping with the\naforementioned difficulties. The opening slide of the Long Walk and\nDeer Park was particularly striking, and on its own sufficient\ntemptation to visit Windsor Great Park. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" src=\"http:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/John-anderson-3-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2969\" srcset=\"https:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/John-anderson-3-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/grayshottgardeners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/John-anderson-3.jpg 716w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nJohn wound up his entertaining and informative talk by answering\nquestions from the audience.
